Systemic design practice for participatory policymaking

As the complexity of policy problems is increasingly recognized, and participatory approaches gain popularity, workers are applying different methods to engage a wide range stakeholders citizens in development implementation. Alongside burgeoning interest various forms design systems thinking, systemic has emerged as descriptor for practice that integrates dialogue, co-creation sensemaking decision-making. an approach policymaking, involves creating conditions more meaningfully participate building shared knowledge taking collective action. This article puts forth new framework public social innovation. It distills insights from author’s experience researcher, evaluator, practitioner educator delivery human services. The five core domains framework—principles, place, people, process practice—are based on established understandings design-led, systems-informed well critical reflections, recent research evaluation reports. relevance illustrated through case study design-led community services New Zealand. Examples demonstrate some benefits challenges innovation design.
